___________________________________________________________________
Our Process
Canyon Consulting aligns unmatched programmatic and technical experience and skills to deliver innovative and purpose-built solutions to our government clients. We focus on providing acquisition, execution, technical, programmatic, business and planning support to government program offices enabling critical Warfighter capabilities in Space, Air, Ground, and Cyber domains to be delivered meeting cost and schedule objectives. By utilizing cross-pollination, Canyon Consulting continues to grow our employee’s expertise to better meet current and future government client’s goals and deliver solutions to complex Department of Defense, Space Force and Air Force acquisition challenges.
Our Projects
Canyon provides a full spectrum of programmatic and technical support to our clients. This ranges from the development of contract documentation, acquisition strategies, contract solicitation and source selection documentation. It also includes support for the day-to-day management of vendor contracts, development of courses of action in response to programmatic challenges, analyses of contract earned value metrics, and assistance with contract closeout activities. Canyon’s technical support includes the development of requirements documents, implementing special studies, assessments of contract data deliverables, analytical support for GPS enterprise technical baseline changes, mission support for GPS satellite launches, and support for various hardware and software Integrated Product Team (IPT) activities. Below are a couple of examples of projects Canyon is contracted with:
GPS-III new navigation satellites will introduce capabilities to meet higher demands of both military and civilian users. It brings the full capability to use M-Code in support of warfighter operations. Canyon is providing broad expertise in support of this evolution of the global positioning system, digital payload, and architecture.
MGUE is a joint service program developed to modernize military GPS receivers, thereby delivering upgraded capabilities that allow for accurate and reliable Positioning, Navigation, and Timing to US and Allies where current receiver performance might be compromised or unavailable.
Our People
Canyon Consulting brings 100+ years of program/technical management, execution, and advisory experience in navigating the Department of Defense’s (DoD) management framework for defense systems, also commonly referred to as the acquisition life cycle. Many employees are retired Air Force acquisition professionals who, while serving their country, obtained DoD-level certifications in program management, systems engineering, and test and evaluation in accordance with Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) certification standards. Canyon Consulting has supported various Space, Air, Ground, and User Equipment Major Defense Acquisition Programs (MDAP) operating within the Major Capability Acquisition (MCA) and Middle Tier Acquisition (MTA) guidelines of the DoD’s Adaptive Acquisition Framework. And most recently, Canyon Consulting has been a critical partner with a U.S. Space Force client executing 1 of 2 ‘Quick Start’ programs under a new authority granted in the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act.
Systems Engineering
___________________________________________
Our Process
From Canyon’s beginnings, we have provided disciplined systems engineering expertise in all its forms including system architecture, trade studies, system requirements, system analysis, system design, concept of operations, and test planning/execution. In 2024, Canyon Consulting embarked on a Digital Transformation. This new journey enables Canyon to provide their customers with even more thorough DoD policy compliant system engineering processes and products adapted to the customer needs. Canyon Consulting is a subcontractor to the SDUE program, which is forging the path by being “born digital.”
Our Projects
NTS-3
Canyon Consulting is honored to be a system engineering support contractor for Navigation Technology Satellite – 3 (NTS-3). Building on the legacy of NTS-1 and NTS-2, NTS-3 establishes a path toward a more robust, resilient, and responsive architecture for satellite navigation (SATNAV) technology while pushing the boundary of today’s space-based position, navigation, and timing (PNT) technology. NTS-3 is expected to launch in 2025.

LWS
Canyon is contracted to AFRL for Lightweight SatNav (LWS) development under the ASPIRE contract. Lightweight SatNav seeks to address the needs of the underserved/disadvantaged PNT users who might otherwise gravitate toward open – and potentially vulnerable – GPS signals. LWS complements modernized GPS by providing a middle way between GPS-M-Code and open signals. Technology development efforts are implementing a signal with the ease of use that open signals provide, but with increased security.
MLT
As a subcontractor to the Machine Learning Toolset program, Canyon provides the Cosmiac MLT team with system engineering products and services for developing situational awareness tools and solutions that speed and facilitate closure of the Position, Navigation, and Timing OODA loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act). Members of the Cosmiac/Canyon team were asked to provide the Machine Learning Tutorial at the Joint Navigation Conference in 2023 and 2024, where they shared their methodologies and associated products:
Our People
Our team leaders for the System Engineering department have CSEP (Certified Systems Engineering Professional) certification through INCOSE (International Council of Systems Engineering) with advanced degrees, including Ph.D.’s in several engineering fields. This expertise continues to provide critical support to DoD acquisition and developmental research for the advancement of the technical systems of tomorrow.
Technology Development

Our Process
Canyon Consulting’s technology development team brings both subject matter expertise and decades of experience in systems engineering to our customers. Our approach to systems engineering is traditional, but inherently lean. With our small team we seek to lead every effort by fostering a collaborative environment with government, other companies, and FFRDCs.
Our Projects
Navigation Technology Satellite 3 (NTS-3) is a flight experiment developed by Air Force Research Laboratory that provides a platform for testing advanced satellite navigation technologies such as advanced antennas, reprogrammable waveform generators, advanced signals, and new operations concepts. Canyon has been part of the NTS-3 program from the beginning, formulating experiment objectives, developing experiment plans, and will (after launch) lead a significant portion of the experiment analysis. Canyon’s experts developed the Science Experiment Controller (SEC) software for generating critical data and operational parameters to support on-orbit experiments.
Lightweight Satellite Navigation (LWS) is a research and development program and an outgrowth of the NTS-3 program. LWS is intended to support disadvantaged users of satellite navigation by providing a secure alternative signal with reduced signal processing requirements and a novel security architecture. Canyon is the principal contractor for investigating LWS, developing the requirements, managing prototype development, and conducting testing.
Software Defined User Equipment (SDUE) is a new satellite navigation receiver program under development by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC). SDUE consists of two elements, a digital antenna electronics system for anti-jam, and a software-defined receiver system for receiving military GPS signals and alternate satellite navigation signals. Canyon is providing systems engineering support to SDUE, including requirements analysis, digital engineering, and system analysis.
Our People
Canyon Consulting’s Technology Development group consists of an elite group of engineers with graduate degrees in engineering, math, or science and prior experience as military officers or industry professionals. For the past decade, they have supported government development of advanced technology from cradle to grave, including mission analysis, requirements development, system architectures, modeling and simulation, prototype development, software development, and test. Our expertise spans multiple disciplines such as orbital analysis, signal processing, machine learning, design of experiments, radio frequency design, cryptography, and electronic warfare.
